Do you spend most of your time either sitting or lying in bed? A lack of physical activity can put you at risk of chronic diseases and mobility problems. As a provider of in-home assistance, we help ensure that our clients are getting as much physical activity as they need or are capable of.

Adults are recommended regular aerobic exercise and strength training.

Aerobics or any other vigorous activity provides health benefits such as losing weight and maintaining mobility. You should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week to achieve the health benefits of aerobic activities. You can even increase this amount if you have fitness goals such as weight loss or weight maintenance.

You can spread these minutes of activity through short periods throughout the week. Some activities include brisk walking, biking, swimming, running, aerobic dancing, and even mowing the lawn.

Strength training is important to ensure that your muscles are kept strong, as the body continuously loses muscle with age. Aim for strength training at least twice a week.
